MM in Brazil

The Brazilian Association of Mangalarga Marchador Horse Breeders (ABCCMM), founded in 1949, is the institution in charge of carrying out the genetic record of the breed and promoting Marchadores in Brazil and in the World. It has 11 thousand associates and besides its headquarters located in the city of Belo Horizonte (Minas Gerais) it has 67 nucleos and associations of breeders in the main States of Brazil. In 2016 it had an enrollment rate of 300 new members per month.

With the aim of preserving and perfecting the essential characteristics of the breed, the ABCCM organizes 200 annual events, among them annual tests and competitions where the horses are assessed by professional judges of the breed for their morphological beatuy, the excellence of the gait and their functional performance.

In 2014 a national law was passed (Law No. 12,975) declaring the Mangalarga Marchador as “the national breed of Brazil”. The project was authored by the federal deputy and MM breeder Arthur de Oliveira Maia da Silva with the spirit of promoting and fomenting the marchadores in Brazil and in the world.

Seeking to promote the breed overseas, the ABCCMM has supported the participation of delegations of MM breeders in the most important international horse shows, including Equitana in Germany and Fieracavalli in Italy. It also has established official representations overseas in countries such as Germany, the United States and Italy.

Aside from the official website (www.abccmm.org.br), the association has a quarterly magazine where the developments of the breed are presented. A TV channel (Mangalarga Marchador
