MM in the World

In the late 1980s Germany was the first foreign country to import Mangalarga Marchador horses from Brasil. Today, there is a well-established German breeders’ association and horses compete in shows across the country. In Europe MMs can also be found in Italy, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland and the Netherlands. German breeders have led the creation of the European Association of Mangalarga Marchador Breeders.

Marchadores were brought to the United States in 1991. In 2004 the US Mangalarga Marchador Association (USMMA) was created. The growth of the breed in the USA has been significant in recent years and in 2016 there were more than twenty breeders registered in several States of the country. In Canada Marchadores arrived in 2009 through the Canadian Mangalarga Marchador Ranch in British Columbia.

Latin America is a still fertile ground for the development of the breed and the first steps have been taken in some countries to promote Marchadores. Efforts are being made in Argentina for the introduction of the breed while in Uruguay (with the creation of the Haras Marchadores del Uruguay) there are renewed efforts to develop a line of machadores of excellent genetics and beauty.

As the ABCCMM motto says: “a race without frontiers”.
